Understanding Viewing Standards
THX (36° FOV): The cinema standard. Provides an immersive experience where the screen fills a significant portion of your visual field. Closer viewing distance — ideal for movies and gaming.
SMPTE (30° FOV): The professional broadcasting standard. Slightly farther than THX, balancing immersion with comfort for extended viewing sessions.
Eye Acuity: The minimum distance where individual pixels become invisible to human vision (~1 arcminute per pixel). With 4K and 8K, you can sit much closer before seeing pixels.
Higher resolution = sit closer: 4K lets you sit 40% closer than 1080p for the same perceived sharpness. This means you can use a smaller TV and sit closer, or use a larger TV at the same distance.
