Our Mission & Standards
Über Screen Sizes Calculator
Präzise Display-Geometrie und ergonomische Sehstandards für Verbraucher, Entwickler und Heimkino-Liebhaber.
100% Client-Side
Every dimension, aspect ratio, and comparison is computed instantly in your browser. No forms submitted, no server round-trips, and zero latency.
Industry Standards
Our formulas strictly adhere to cinematic and optical standards established by SMPTE, THX, and human visual acuity (20/20 eye threshold) models.
Zero Tracking Bias
We do not sell affiliate bias, capture personal data, or run intrusive scripts. Our measurements reflect unbiased physical trigonometry.
Technical Foundations
How Our Calculators Work
All display calculations are derived from fundamental geometric equations and optical ergonomics. Here is an overview of the core mathematics powering our tools:
Screen Dimensions & Area
Manufacturers advertise displays by diagonal measurement (d). Given an aspect ratio of W:H, the diagonal magnitude multiplier is M = √(W² + H²). The physical width and height are:
Height = d × (H / √(W² + H²))
Surface Area = Width × Height
Note: This calculates the viewable active display panel. Bezel thickness, housing enclosures, and stands are excluded.
Pixel Density & Sharpness (PPI)
Pixel density determines perceived clarity and sharpness. It quantifies how many individual pixels fit within one linear inch along the screen diagonal:
At standard desktop viewing distances (24–30 in), a PPI of ~110 is comfortable without OS scaling, while 200+ PPI delivers true "retina" pixel blending.
Viewing Distance & Field of View
To determine cinematic immersion, we implement standard field-of-view (FOV) angles:
- SMPTE 30° Standard: Recommended for casual viewing, mixed media, and broadcast TV.
- THX 36° Target: Standard theatrical immersion where the screen subtends 36° of vision.
- THX 40° Maximum: Maximum recommended immersion for widescreen cinematic content.
Visual Acuity Thresholds
The human eye with 20/20 vision can resolve details down to approximately 1 arcminute (1/60th of a degree). Beyond the visual acuity distance:
Sitting closer allows you to appreciate 4K or 8K resolution; sitting farther renders individual pixels imperceptible to the human eye.

Editorial Integrity & Corrections
Have a Suggestion or Found a Bug?
We strive for 100% precision across all device presets and formulas. If a new display release features unusual aspect ratios (such as ultrawide or dual-screen formats), or if you discover an error in our reference tables, we welcome your feedback.
